Preston v Barnsley: Wilson backing Davies to step into breach and hold promotion-chasers Preston at bay

DANNY WILSON is confident that Adam Davies will prove a more than capable deputy for suspended No 1 Ross Turnbull at in-form Preston North End today.

Davies will make his first start since September 17 against North End, whose sole home defeat this term came when Bradford City triumphed 2-1 on November 15.

Reds chief Wilson said: “Adam has done very well and I have no worries about putting him in.

“He performed very well up until Ross came back into the team and really at that stage, the (only) reason Ross got in was because of his experience.

“But Adam is growing in confidence and his reserve game performances have been very good.”

Deepdale may represent a difficult arena, but the Reds have already shown their mettle in claiming impressive victories at tough venues such as Rochdale and Sheffield United and Wilson says no reason why they cannot surprise Preston.

Wilson, who has boosted his squad by signing Worcester City full-back George Williams, said: “We will have a very stern test, but we have played teams at the top and performed well against them.

“I expect us to do the same against Preston. They are in great form, but are not unbeatable.”
