Collins: Not too much to do, but was beaten by Ejaria's low strike. Being uber-critical, the effort was not right in the corner. 6

Sollbauer: Up against a threat in Ejaria and caught out for the goal. 5

Helik: He and his fellow defenders will not have been happy with Ejaria's goal. Had a chance at the other end in first half. 6

Andersen: Relieved when Meite did not cash in on his early mistake. 6

Brittain: Probably Barnsley's most dangerous attacker in first half and grazed the crossbar and saw a goalbound shot blocked. Tons of work. 7

Palmer: The young midfielder is what he is. Still a work in progress and brought off before the hour mark for Halme. 5

Mowatt: Stepped up in the absence of Woodrow to steer home a crucial penalty as any good captain worth their salt should. Just. 6

Styles: More vim and vigour than against Sheffield Wednesday, but Reading were wise to his danger, until he won a penalty, that is. His blind pass should have presented Reading with a second, but fates were on his side mercifully. 6

Frieser: Tried to get into dangerous pockets and was persistent and kept at it and carried threat. 6

Woodrow: Tried to drop deep and link play, but got little change out of Reading. Harshly booked for backing in and made way at the break. 5

Adeboyejo: Handed a vote of faith from Ismael in starting his first game since February 17, but did not convince. 5

Substitutes: Dike (Woodrow 45). He and Morris punched their weight and slugged it out toe to toe with Reading. Did not hit the levels of Wedesday and Wycombe, but it's been a long week. Still gave the Reds an energy rush. 6

Morris (Adeboyejo 45). Got into the game and posed problems with his power and pace. Went close to a winner. 7

Halme (Palmer 57). Helped Barnsley reassert themselves in the middle ground. 7

Not used: Walton, J Williams, Chaplin, Sibbick, Oduor, Moon.
