Long: Not forced to exert himself at all until he made a sharp near post save to deny Green, close to the hour mark. 6

Coyle: A welcome returnee, the Hull lad was handed the captain's armband and was typically solid and dependable. 7

A Jones: Made one telling interception early on to deny Wright. Steady away. 7

McLoughlin: Went about his business in unfussy fashion. 6

Fleming: Scannell spun away from him for perhaps Grimsby's best first-half chance. 6

Batty: Received treatment early on, but recovered quickly and kept Hull ticking over. 7

C Jones: Handed a brief in midfield and competed well enough. Fired a second-half chance over as he sought to follow up his goal at Harrogate. 6

Slater: Teed up Samuelsen's opener and kept busy. 6

Samuelsen: Showed the class which has always been in his locker with a wonderful opener and nodded in his second soon after. Has the sort of intrinsic skill that you cannot teach. Will be gutted at failing to take the match ball home after seeing a late penalty saved, mind. 8

Eaves: Worked his socks off and linked play, but would clearly love another goal or two. 6

Adelakun. Took him a while to get going, but when he did, he looked like he had the number of his marker Ohman. Bamboozled him for City's second goal when he turned him inside out. 7

Substitutes: Scott (Eaves 59). Good work set up Samuelsen for a hat-trick chance soon after he came on. Fine strike to follow up his goal at Harrogate and much better than on Saturday. 7

Mayer (Adelakun 59). Disappointing in his previous two appearances, the Austrian went close moments after coming on with his drive parried by McKeown. Lively cameo. 7
