Barker, former assistant at Charlton and MK Dons, renews acquaintances with ex-Rotherham team mate and current manager Paul Warne after leaving the Addicks - with the pair being part of Ronnie Moore’s famous line-up of the early noughties.

The Millers made an approach to speak with Barker, 41, last month and he has now been given the green club to join his old club, which also sees him link up again with another ex-playing colleague in goalkeeping coach Mike Pollitt alongside long-serving club stalwart John Breckin.

In total, Barker had three spells with the Millers as a player, scoring 13 goals in 153 league games.

He joined Charlton in December 2016 to join up with Karl Robinson, who he assisted when the pair were at MK Dons.
