Spanish boss Roberto Martinez is the new favourite to succeed Steve Bruce as Hull City boss, with the Tigers set to interview the 43-year-old about replacing Steve Bruce.

Bruce quit his position on Friday and his former no 2 Mike Phelan is now in temporary charge, with the former Manchester United assistant admitting he would relish the opportunity to take the role full-time.

But former Everton boss Martinez has been all the rage with the nation’s bookmakers over the weekend with the Spaniard said to be on a short-list of candidates who Hull would consider as Bruce’s successor.

Steve McClaren, Steve Evans, Ryan Giggs and Neil Warnock are also all prominent in the betting to be next Tigers boss - along with Phelan - but Martinez’s odds are in free fall, with the 43-year-old as short as 3-1 favourite with Leeds firm Sky Bet on Monday morning.

Martinez is keen to return to management after being sacked by Everton at the end of last season, with Hull set to interview the former Swansea City, Wigan Athletic and Toffees boss about taking over the role.
