Rotherham United boss Alex Bruce makes admission regarding 'throwback' Huddersfield Town striker George Sebine

ROTHERHAM United head coach Alex Bruce admits that patience proved a virtue in the club's successful loan swoop for Huddersfield Town striker George Sebine.

The 19-year-old signed in a beat-the-deadline move on Tuesday night and has linked up with the Millers for the rest of the season.

After featuring as a late substitute against Oxford United, Town officials worked overtime to facilitate his loan move to the Millers, with the League Two outfit grateful for the club's assistance.

Town made a late call to allow Sebine to head out on loan to broaden his development and prospects of regular football.

Bruce said: "I'm sure I'm not the only one (manager) saying it that sometimes you speak to clubs (about certain players) and a lot of information I was getting back was 'possibly we might let him out on loan if we get this deal done'.

"So there's plenty of that going on and I'm just pleased that we got it done in the end.

"George is someone who we've tracked and monitored. He's a bit of a throwback. A proper number nine who runs around, puts his foot in and harries defenders.

"I think he'll do well. I think with what we need in profile, he fitted the bill very well. I'm really pleased we've got him because it was touch and go whether he was going to be allowed out or not."

Meanwhile, Bruce has confirmed that former Sheffield Wednesday defender Dominic Iorfa is training with the Millers.

The 30-year-old, based in the area, was released by the Owls in May after six-and-a-half seasons.

On whether the centre-back, the sort of senior figure at the back who the Millers currently lack, could potentially earn a deal if he impresses, Bruce remained coy.

"We'll have to wait and see,” he said.

The Millers chief says the club's medical staff are still monitoring Jamie Jellis' calf injury on a daily basis - with the problem forcing him to miss the club's last three matches.

Fellow midfielder Kian Spence is also 'struggling' with a similar issue ahead of Saturday's trip to Steve Evans' Bristol Rovers.

On Jellis, Bruce said: "We thought originally it would be a seven to ten day injury, but where it is at the bottom of the calf, you have to be quite careful with it. It's as simple as that.

"It's an area where you can't really rush it, so we just have to go up how he feels, basically."
