Rotherham United transfer latest: Manchester United midfielder becomes signing number 13

ROTHERHAM United have completed the loan signing of Manchester United midfielder Jayce Fitzgerald.

The teenager, 19, has joined for the rest of the 2026-27 season and becomes the club's 13th new arrival of a busy second half of the summer window.

Fitzgerald, who has been on the bench for the Red Devils in the top flight and in the Europa League, has been part of United's youth set-up since childhood and was an unused substitute for the first team on a handful of occasions during Ruud van Nistelrooy's spell as interim manager at Old Trafford.

The Salford-born player, who is also capable of operating in defence, has previously won silverware with his parent club in the under-18 Premier League, U18 Premier League Cup and the FA Youth Cup.

Fitzgerald, capped by England youth at under-16 and under-17 level, is the club’s third loan addition after the earlier arrivals of Brentford goalkeeper Julian Eyestone and Sheffield United wing-back Jill Buyabu.

Boss Alex Bruce remains in the market for another signing ahead of Tuesday night's summer deadline.

The Millers chief has missed out on Blackpool striker Kylian Kouassi, who is set to join Colchester.

Speaking after the home win over Chesterfield – his first as manager - he added: "There are a few irons in the fire, so we'll see what happens over the next couple of days."
