Accrington Stanley v Rotherham United: Scott to use loan system as sharpening device

ROTHERHAM United manager Andy Scott wants some of his fringe players to go out on loan.

The Millers, who visit Accrington Stanley tonight, have several players short of match fitness including midfielders Johnny Mullins and Oliver Banks and defender Luke Foster.

“There maybe something happening this week,” Scott said. “We have not got a great deal of reserve games. It’s important that they are ready and raring to go when needed so we may let them out now to get some games at a good level.”

Midfielder Danny Schofield is available tonight after being suspended for the weekend victory over Dagenham & Redbridge.

Scott feels the Millers missed the former Huddersfield Town player during a difficult second half at Victoria Road.

“I don’t think we missed Danny in the first half because we changed the way we played a little bit and the two wingers really caused them problems,” he said. “But certainly in the second half, we gave the ball away too much and that’s where Danny would have been a real benefit to us.

“Some people maybe think I was a bit harsh on the players but we can’t let our standards slip.

“In any company, everyone knows what everyone else’s job is and that’s why it works fluidly. In football, if people start doing their own thing, the cogs don’t fit together and the thing doesn’t work.

“It means players have not done what they were asked to do.”

Last six games: Accrington WLWDWD, Rotherham Utd WWDWLW.

Last time: Accrington 2 Millers 3; October 16, 2010; League Two.
