Charlton v Rotherham United: Sammon is confident Millers are on the up

After Tuesday’s splendid 4-2 win over Bolton, the portents are set fair with the Millers anxious to maintain their momentum against an out-of-form Addicks and clinch back-to-back victories in the second-tier for the first time since December, 2003.

Confidence will not be an issue for the likes of Conor Sammon or Matt Darbyshire, who hit their first Millers league goals in midweek and are busily counting down the minutes until kick-off.

Sammon said: “I am really optimistic, that’s the type of person I am. Tuesday was a great result and we look to build on it now.

“We have got some really good players and that showed against Bolton. You see the quality and energy in our team with Richie Smallwood and Paul Green.

“Then there’s the skill and threat of Ben Pringle and Conor Newton and even the lads on the bench, there’s some real competition for places. I have not even mentioned the back four.”

Manager Steve Evans says he will speak to his Leicester counterpart Nigel Pearson tomorrow, with Jack Barmby’s loan at the club finishing after today’s game.

Evans added: “Jack’s got bags of ability and a great desire and wants to play.

“That will probably be the topic when I speak to Nigel, how much Jack wants to play because he probably needs to accept at the minute that he’s maybe in for two or three and then he’ll go off for two.”
