FT: Rotherham United 0-3 Southend United

Rotherham United are still to hit full stride in League Two as they were humbled 3-0 by in-form Southend at the New York Stadium.

It was the Millers’ second league defeat at their new town-centre stadium on what was manager Steve Evans’s final match of a six-game stadium ban.

After a goalless first half, Britt Assombalonga gave Southend the lead on 54 minutes.

Assombalonga then doubled the lead 11 minutes later for the Shrimpers.

David Martin then put the result beyond doubt with a third for Southend on 72 minutes.

The result sees Evans’s side drop out of the top half of the table on 15 points. They are now 13th, four points off the play-off places.

Rotherham assistant manager Paul Raynor said: “To say I’m disappointed is the biggest understatement I’ll ever come out with. There’s no positives in that.

“In many games when you get beaten you can find some positives, but there were none whatsoever today.

“We were lacklustre, there were people hiding, people not working hard enough and not sticking to the game plan we’d worked on in training.”
