Injured Becchio misses Leeds reunion

FORMER Leeds United forward Luciano Becchio will miss out on a reunion with his former club at the New York Stadium on Friday night, with the Rotherham United loanee revealing he has broken his ankle.

Becchio, a fans favourite during his time at Elland Road before moving to Norwich City in January 2013, revealed the shock news via his Twitter account this morning.

Becchio joined the Millers on transfer deadline day on loan for the rest of the season from Norwich and had started to make a positive impression at the New York Stadium.

The Argentine forward has netted in the club’s last two home games, against Blackburn Rovers and Charlton Athletic and had been desperate to feature against his old club in front of the Sky TV cameras on Friday.

Becchio tweeted: “I want to say that I’ve broken my ankle and I’ll be out around 3 months but I’ll be back more strong...”

In total, Becchio, 30, scored 87 goals in 221 appearances for Leeds in all competitions.
