QPR v Rotherham: Evans makes vow over Millers performances

The Millers broke their points duck in the Championship with Tuesday night’s goalless draw at home to Preston North End.

Following defeats to Milton Keynes Dons and Nottingham Forest, the stalemate was enough to nudge the Millers up a couple of places to 22nd in the fledgling table.

Evans said: “The best is yet to come. This is a new group. You can’t be oblivious to criticism and you work out in your head if that is right.

“But we have worked hard to turn things around. We still have work to do in certain areas and points to prove.

“That, though, is why they are here.”

On the club’s start, Evans added: “We deserved to get beaten by MK Dons and have taken that, but we should have taken something at the City Ground against Forest, and we went into the game with Preston with a lot of mental pressure.

“Against Preston the performance for 70 minutes wasn’t where it needed to be. The last 20 was much more like us.”

Today’s opponents, Queens Park Rangers, claimed their own first victory of the season in midweek when they came from 2-0 down to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Evans was in the crowd at Molineux and he admits to finding it hard to believe that £15m rated Charlie Austin is still at Rangers following the London club’s 
relegation from the Premier League.

“I would buy him,” said the Millers chief when asked about the England international’s failure to secure a move back to the top flight yet this summer.

“I thought he was a superstar in the making at Swindon.

“He scored against my teams then and caused us a lot of problems.

“I see people saying he is not fit or he has problems with his knee. He didn’t look to have a knee problem for me in the last half hour at Wolves.”

On today’s challenge for Rotherham, Evans added: “No-one will blink an eyelid if they win so we can go there and try to get as much of the ball as we possibly can.

“There is no pressure on my team.

“We are not expected to get anything but there is internal pressure.

“We put pressure on ourselves to get something from every game.”
