Rotherham 1 Wolves 2: Millers were better side, claims Redfearn

Goals from James Henry and Danny Batth sandwiched a first-half equaliser from Joe Newell as Wolves triumphed.

Neil Redfearn had to shuffle his defence when Farrend Rawson withdrew with a groin problem after having replaced calf victim Stephen Kelly shortly before half-time in last week's victory over Bristol City.

Danny Collins moved into central defence and Harry Toffolo took over at left-back, Joe Mattock only being deemed fit enough to take a place on the bench after hamstring trouble.

Wolves, whose lone frontman was former Millers striker Adam Le Fondre, took a fifth-minute lead when James Henry's stooping header from Jordan Graham's deflected cross beat Lee Camp inside his far post.

The Millers goalkeeper made an instinctive one-handed stop from Henry's powerful header soon after and the hosts made it 1-1 in the 18th minute after Matt Derbyshire had replaced injured striker Danny Ward.

A couple of shots were blocked but Toffolo drove the ball back in and Joe Newell turned it home off the far post.

There was plenty of attacking intent from both sides but Wolves made it 2-1 just before the break when Danny Batth headed home at the far post from a deep corner as he and fellow central defender Ethan Ebanks-Landell rose unchallenged.

Those two ensured the Wolves goal was put under little pressure in the early stages of the second half and Le Fondre could have made it 3-1 but fluffed a six-yard header.

Millers introduced loanee Luke Hyam in place of Newell in their bid to make it 2-2.

Ebanks-Landell also failed to get a proper connection to a corner to the near post and hit the ball wide before Wolves held on comfortably for the victory.

Rotherham manager Neil Redfearn felt Wolves' extra quality in the final third gave them the edge.

He said: "I thought we were the better side. We had the weight of the possession and territory but the the difference was quality. The goals were poor from our point of view.

"We had one or two half-chances but we looked short up front.

"We look like we were short of a man up there. The midfield did well against a good midfield.

"I thought we run them close enough but we lacked the quality. The effort and the determination was there. There was nothing in the game. A point would have been a good point."

Redfearn also blamed a slow start for the loss. He added: "I thought we started a little bit nervous and they sensed it. When we equalised they wobbled a bit and it looked like we were going to put them to task.

"The second goal was poor. The goals were disappointing but we have got to keep going.

"We can't get down, we've got to dust ourselves off. We've still got to go and get something at Blackburn. Nothing changes."
