Rotherham United: Collin error cost Millers: Evans.

After edging the vast majority of the first half, two goals in two minutes just before the break from Dexter Blackstock and Michail Antonio turned the game on its head, with Evans left to rue a mistake from keeper Adam Collin for Forest’s first on 43 minutes.

Antonio sent Blackstock clear and he spotted Collin stranded outside of his goal and despite the Millers’ custodian getting his fingertips to the striker’s expert lob, it was not enough to stop it going on off the underside of the bar.

Less than two minutes later, the Reds doubled their money when Antonio weaved past a couple of challenges before firing up a precision low shot from twenty yards.

Lee Frecklington hit the post on the restart for the Millers, whose influential utility man Kari Arnason picked up a costly booking which will rule him out of their next two games, while Karl Darlow made a splendid save to deny Connor Sammon.

But that aside, Forest were fairly comfortable against the fourth-from-bottom Millers, who must regroup for Saturday’s home derby with Sheffield Wednesday, with Jack Hunt (hip) 50-50 for the game.

On the City Ground loss, Evans said: “It’s a cruel game. We were certainly the better side in the first half for long, long spells and Adam makes a mistake really, coming for something he shouldn’t come for and they go 1-0 up.

“We then lost our shape from an immediate restart and we turn 2-0 down and people are shaking their heads in the dressing room.

“It was quite hard to take.

“You need a big reaction after going 2-0 down to a team who have been in rampant form and I think we dominated the second half for long spells.

“There some big decisions; their goalkeeper (Karl Darlow) makes an absolute world-class save and they are the fine margins. We make an error before half-time and he makes a big save.

“The result will show we have lost, but I go away pleased with the performance overall.

“Adam will be down because it’s just an error and misjudgment. But he’s been fantastic for us, kept us in games and got us points.

“Everyone knows that the boy was going nowhere and getting chased by a defender.

“He was probably going to go wide, but in saying that, he looked up and got his Christmas turkey arriving because Adam was too far out of goal and he couldn’t adjust quickly enough to get back.”
