The SPL outfit turned down a bid in the region of £375,000 from the Millers earlier this week, with Rangers now preparing themselves to make a fourth bid for the 28-year-old.

Speculation suggested that Rotherham would return with a fresh offer, but Evans says they are no longer in the hunt for the player, who he says will not consider a move south from Scotland due to family reasons.

Reports in Scotland also suggest that Allan has set his heart on a move to Ibrox.

Evans said: “We have removed ourselves from the process in the last couple of hours.

“I spoke to his representatives earlier today and his representatives made it clear that Scott at this minute in time with a young baby on the scene wished to stay in Scotland.

“If he doesn’t want to be with us, we have to move on.”

Meanwhile, Evans - who says left-back Joe Mattock is rated at ‘60-40’ for Saturday’s Championship curtain-raiser against promoted MK Dons - has confirmed he will reveal his captain to the successful candidate just before kick-off at the weekend.
