Round-up: Rotherham United handed striker signing boost, ex-Leeds United favourite set for Sheffield United

ROTHERHAM United have completed the signing of experienced striker Paul Mullin on a free transfer.

The 31-year-old, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Bradford City, left Wrexham at the end of 2025-26.

Mullin was a cult hero during his time in north Wales after joining on a free transfer from Cambridge United in 2021.

The Liverpudlian scored 110 goals in 172 games in all competitions during his five years with the club, falling out of favour ahead of last season after helping the Red Dragons to three successive promotions.

In his time at Cambridge, Mullin secured the Sky Bet League Two golden boot award with 32 strikes in 2020-21.

He also sampled promotion from the fourth tier with Tranmere Rovers earlier in his career.

Mullin struggled for opportunities during his spell at Bradford earlier this year and failed to find the net in nine appearances.

The frontman spent the first half of the 2025-26 season on loan at another League One side in Wigan Athletic, scoring five times in 26 outings in all competitions.

Despite a modest campaign, Mullin's record at fourth-tier level is an outstanding one and his presence will significantly bolster the Millers ahead of the start of the new campaign.

Mullin is the club's sixth signing of the summer following the earlier arrivals of of Aaron Nemane, Ossama Ashley, Jamie Jellis, Fabio Tavares and Jili Buyabu and a further new arrival could follow by the weekend.

Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips is reportedly set to re-join Sheffield United on loan.

The former Leeds United man spent the second half of the 2025-26 season with the Blades but made just three appearances, as his spell at Bramall Lane was affected by injury and suspension.

The 30-year-old's days at City are numbered, despite having two years left on his deal, with Enzo Maresca leaving him out of the club's squad for the pre-season tour of Asia.

Phillips has started just two Premier League games during his time at the club and also underwhelmed during two unproductive loan spells in the top-flight at Ipswich Town and West Ham.
