Scarborough Athletic FC chairman David Holland dies

Holland was admitted to intensive care in a critical condition on Monday and lost his battle this afternoon.

A club statement read: “It is with a heavy heart that the board has to announce our chairman David Holland passed away this afternoon.

“Please respect Wendy and the families’ privacy at this very difficult time, further details will be released as and when appropriate.

Holland first began supporting the former Scarborough FC as an eight-year-old in the 1964-5 season, and continued to follow them while working in Norfolk, where he runs an educational publishing company.

He became involved with the club’s Trust following the winding up order on Scarborough FC in 2007.

He helped resurrect the club as Athletic in June 2007 and has been an ever-present member since.

Scarborough have won two promotions since it was reformed and now play in the Evo-Stik First Division North, where they sit seventh.
