Sheffield United have signed Leon Clarke from Bury.

The 31-year-old has signed a three-year deal at Bramall Lane after manager Chris Wilder identified the striker as a key part of his plans.

“We are delighted to secure his signature,” said the Blades chief. “We have worked hard to get Leon over the line.

“He is widely recognised as one of the top centre forwards in the division and he will complement what we already have.”

Clarke netted 18 times last season for the Shakers in League One. United are understood to have beaten off late interest from Clarke’s former club Coventry City to sign the striker.

Wilder added: “We have youth, legs, ability, pace and experience and all can score goals. Leon is experienced and knows the division very well, he we will lead the line and the added bonuses are that he is a good character and still has the desire to achieve.”
