Sheffield United have until Monday to respond to a charge of failing to control their players in Saturday’s defeat to Southampton.

The south-coast club have been charged with the same offence.

The incident concerned came in stoppage time when the Blades’ John Fleck fouled Che Adams in front of the dugouts, prompting Saints players to surround referee Paul Tierney demanding a red card, and Oli McBurnie and Jannik Vestergaard being booked for their reactions amidst the pushing and shoving as the home players took umbrage at the response.

Tierney and video assistant referee Geoff Eltringham concluded Fleck’s was a yellow-card offence.

Southampton won the game 2-0.
