There was little to get excited about in a poor performance at Craven Cottage, and that is reflected in Stuart Rayner's player ratings

Aaron Ramsdale – made a good tip-over from Ola Aina but his weakness from Ademola Lookman's goal was the abiding memory 5

George Baldock – did little to justify his selection over Jayden Bogle, but few if any Blades had good nights 6

Ethan Amapdu – like Ramsdale, too weak on the goal 5

Phil Jagielka – his substitution was probably as much about saving his legs as chasing the lost cause 6

Kean Bryan – a vanilla performance on a night when there were too many 6

Enda Stevens – presented with a really good chance to equalise, he did not believe in himself 5

Chris Basham – started in midfield and moved to centre-back without having an impact on either position but his hamstring injury was still another cruel blow 6

John Fleck – surprise inclusion after illness, he did not grab the game by the scruff of the neck 6

John Lundstram – like most of those in green, he failed to stamp his authority on the game 6

Oli McBurnie – took a hefty whack to the head in the first half 6

Billy Sharp – played the pass for Stevens' chance but missed a good one himself, albeit the offside flag was perhaps wrongly up and McBurnie was in his way 6.

Substitutes:

Oliver Norwood (for Basham, 51) – crossed the ball for Sharp's missed chance 6

David McGoldrick (for Lundstram, 74) – tried his best to rescue a lost cause 5

Jayden Bogle (for Jagielka, 80) – only played 10 minutes, but in that brief time looked the best wing-back 6.
