Sheffield United took their first point of the season against Fulham, but it could have been better.

The Blades played some excellent football in the first half without taking their chances. Fortunately for them, when Fulham came back into the game in the second half, they too were unable to make the most of it.

The result was a 1-1 draw which belatedly gets both sides up and running for the season.

Aaron Ramsdale – a couple of really good saves – albeit one was from his own error 7

Chris Basham – put in some crosses which ought to have been converted but sacrificed, as so often, in the search for an equaliser 7

John Egan – a welcome return from self-isolation 6

Enda Stevens – played two different defensive positions and got forward well from both 7

George Baldock – less influential than Stevens 6

Sander Berge – a strong performance playing further forward, particularly late in the first half 7

Oliver Norwood – looked back to his old self after a spell out of the side, passing the ball well 7

John Lundstram – fewer forward runs in the second half as Sheffield United lost control of the game 6

Max Lowe – left dazed by a collision in the opening minutes, leaving him unable to make an impact on his debut 5

Oli McBurnie – the Blades needing better finishing from him 5

David McGoldrick – one excellent tackle to snatch possession off Tom Cairney and set up a disallowed goal, but his attacking impact was not what he needed 6.

Substitutes:

Jack Robinson (for Lowe, 19) – at fault for Fulham's penalty, although he won Sheffield United's 6

Rhian Brewster (for McGoldrick, 64) – took a bang to the head and struggled to make an impact on his debut 5

Billy Sharp (for Basham, 81) – emphatic penalty 7

Not used: Burke, Verrips, Ampadu Osborn.
