Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder and Sheffield Wednesday captain Barry Bannan vying for Championship honours for September

SHEFFIELD United manager Chris Wilder and Sheffield Wednesday captain Barry Bannan have been short-listed for the EFL Championship manager and player of the month accolades for September.

Wilder presided over an impressive haul of 10 points from four unbeaten games last month - including wins against Watford, Hull City and Derby County - with the miserly Blades not so much as conceding a goal as they continued their impressive start to life back in the second tier.

Vying for the gong alongside Wilder are Blackburn Rovers manager John Eustace, Burnley chief Scott Parker and Plymouth Argyle boss Wayne Rooney.

Eustace's Rovers picked up seven points from three games in September, while Lancastrian rivals Burnley amassed the same amount from an identical amount of matches last month under Parker.

Rooney overcame a testing start to life at Home Park by picking up eye-catching home victories against Sunderland and Luton Town, with Argyle scoring three goals in each of the wins.

Meanwhile, Bannan has been recognised for a stellar September, which included splendid goals versus QPR and Luton and the 100th assist of his Owls career in an excellent triumph over early pacesetters West Brom.

The Scot is competing for the award alongside ex-Wednesday and Middlesbrough defender Danny Batth, now at Blackburn, former Leeds United, Barnsley and Boro midfielder Alex Mowatt, who is excelling at the Hawthorns and Norwich City midfielder Borja Sainz.
