Sheffield United will not 'disrespect' Plymouth Argyle, insists Chris Wilder

SHEFFIELD UNITED manager Chris Wilder insists that the last thing that he will be caught doing is showing ‘disrespect’ to opponents Plymouth Argyle by looking too far ahead with the fifth round of the competition having already been drawn.

Should United progress into the last 16, their next opponents will be Championship opposition in the shape of Millwall or Bristol City at Bramall Lane - which offers a potentially attractive route to the quarter-finals on paper.

But Wilder - sensibly given his side’s form this season - is not getting sidetracked ahead of tomorrow's meeting with Argyle, managed by former Sheffield Wednesday forward Ryan Lowe.

The Devon outfit, who are 11th place in League One, also have a significant incentive to progress. Victory would see them reach round five of the competition for the first time since 2006-07.

Wilder, who said were pushed all the way in round three by another League One side in Bristol Rovers, said: “It is completely disrespectful to our opponents for me to think anything other than trying to win a tough game against a side who are well coached and well managed by somebody who has had an excellent start to his managerial career who we know quite well and have a huge amount of respect for.

“The key is to win games of football and to play well. I have spoken to the players and it is pretty simplistic.

People talk nonsense yet again about shape, systems and other bits and pieces. Play well and give yourself an opportunity to win a game of football. That is all I am looking at from my team on Saturday afternoon.

“I think Jose Mourinho spoke about the nonsense of people talking about stuff and that it is pretty simplistic. Play well - as we did at Bristol Rovers and we most certainly did that against Newcastle - and bring your mate to the party alongside you and get him to play well.

“If he plays well and then another one plays well and then 11 play well and we have contributions, we give ourselves the opportunity of getting a result and we are going to have to do that on Saturday afternoon.

“I am completely not interested in who we have got, when it is and whether it is home or away. I am just interested in making sure we prepare the players in the best possible way to get a win.”
