The 20-year-old forward joined the Blades in a club record £23.5m move from Liverpool on Friday, but signed too late to be eligible to face Arsenal on Sunday. That means his debut will almost certainly come in the crucial home game against Fulham on October 17. Neither side has a point after their first four Premier League matches.

Brewster came on as an 89th-minute substitute in August's Community Shield, his fourth and final appearance for Liverpool, and has not even featured in this season's League Cup with uncertainty around his future.

“Rhian has not played a lot of football, so we'll condition him,” said Wilder. “He will be involved (against Fulham) but whether he starts or not is a decision we'll make after looking at him over the next ten days.”

Despite his fitness, the Blades had hoped to include Brewster in their squad at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

“I'm disappointed he wasn't involved,” Wilder admitted. “It was a race against time so we were disappointed we didn't get it done before 12 (Friday's deadline to be registered to play at the weekend).”

David McGoldrick's goal in the 2-1 defeat was only Sheffield United's second this season, and their first in the Premier League. McGoldrick also scored their League Cup goal.

Brewster was the Blades' seventh addition of the window but they are still looking for a left-sided central defender after Jack O'Connell underwent knee surgery ruling him out for six months. One of their targets is Huddersfield Town outcast Terence Kongolo.

Although Premier League clubs cannot sign players from abroad after 11pm today, they can still make signings from Football League clubs such as Huddersfield until 5pm on October 16.
