Two Sheffield United games on free channel in June

Sheffield United's matches at Newcastle United and Manchester United will be available on one of Sky's free channels, and the latter will take place at Old Trafford as planned.

News leaked on Thursday that the Blades' opening four Premier League matches after the coronavirus suspension would be on the satellite platform, but it has now been confirmed that two will be available on Sky Sports Pick, which can be seen on Freeview, and by those who do not subscribe to Sky's Premier League channel.

The game against Manchester United in particular could be hugely important to the Blades' hopes of qualifying for Europe. It had been highlighted as a possible candidate to be moved to a neutral venue because of concerns about fans congregating outside, but only two fixtures where Liverpool could potentially win their first title in 30 years are under consideration.

Victory in Sheffield United's first game back, at Aston Villa on June 17 (6pm) will take them above the Red Devils and Wolverhampton Wanderers into fifth in the Premier League, with all sides having played 29 matches.

The Blades then play Newcastle before the trip to Old Trafford.

The Premier League has only confirmed fixtures up to and including July 2, when Sheffield United welcome Tottenham Hotspur for the first league game at Bramall Lane since the March 7 win over Norwich City.

Fifth place in the Premier League could be enough to qualify for next season's Champions League, depending on Manchester City's appeal against a two-year European ban, which is expected to be heard from not week, but not ruled upon for two months. Three teams go into the Europa League, including the FA Cup winners, if they have not already qualified. Sheffield United are at home to Arsenal in the quarter-finals.
