Young Sheffield United striker's move confirmed - now Chris Wilder will be hoping to spend

Chris Wilder will be hoping the departure of Will Osula adds to his meagre transfer kitty after the striker's move to Newcastle United was confirmed.

The 20-year-old Dane has joined Newcastle United for what is expected to be an initial £10m.

Wilder had hoped to keep one of the club's most exciting young talents to rebuild around after relegation from the Premier League but the lure of an instant return for the youngster was too hard to stand in the way of.

But the move could provide much-needed funds after a transfer window which has seen the Blades pay only two transfer fees so far after a mass clearout.

Kieffer Moore joined from Bournemouth for £5m and Harrison Burrows for a price Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony claimed could go beyond the £10m they received from Brentford for Ivan Toney if all the proposed add-ons come in.

Wilder was sorry to see Osula go, but felt unable to stand in his way.

"We've talked about it before, we are a club in a position that has to be careful that we don't stifle opportunities for young players to go to Premier League clubs and if there is interest, whether a year left like Jayden or longer on it like other players who have been mentioned, we make sure we get the best possible price.

"It's quite difficult to hold onto players now when Premier League clubs come knocking, I had it at Middlesbrough when Bournemouth came knocking for Marcus Tavernier and unfortunately that attraction of the Premier L and the club is too difficult to turn down."
