Sheffield Wednesday 'closing in' on ex-Charlton Athletic and Dundee United man Ashley Maynard-Brewer
Sheffield Wednesday are said to be closing on a new addition to their squad
Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly closing in on the capture of free agent goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer.
The 27-year-old, a former Australia youth international, is a product of Charlton Athletic’s academy and spent eight years in their senior ranks.
He made 87 appearances for the Addicks before moving on in January this year, when Dundee United tied him to a short-term deal.
Maynard-Brewer made 12 appearances north of the border, although was not retained beyond the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

Sheffield Wednesday ‘close in’ on goalkeeper
According to The Wednesday Word, the Owls are close to adding the goalkeeper to their ranks.
He would become the second goalkeeping recruit of the summer at Hillsborough following the signing of Joe Lumley from Bristol City.
As it stands, Lumley is the only stopper in Henrik Pedersen’s squad, with Pierce Charles having been sold to Manchester City and Logan Stretch having been loaned to Buxton.
Ashley Maynard-Brewer profile
When Maynard-Brewer joined Dundee United in January, his new boss Jim Goodwin described him as a player with a “strong mix of experience and maturity”.
Goodwin said: “He brings a strong mix of experience and maturity whilst also having room to develop further, and he’s already demonstrated that he can perform consistently in demanding environments such as the Scottish Premiership and League One.

“He’s technically very sound, commands his area well and is brave in his decision-making, but just as importantly he has the right mentality. He’s played in pressure situations, he’s been part of successful squads, and he understands what it takes to compete week in, week out at this level.
“This deal also gives us healthy competition in the goalkeeping department, which is exactly what you want at this stage of the season. Ashley is hungry to come in, prove himself and make an impact straight away, and that attitude matches the standards we’re trying to set here."
