'It's fired me up' - Sheffield Wednesday star Barry Bannan given fuel for Bradford City derby by blunder
Barry Bannan has addressed his miss in Sheffield Wednesday’s win over Leyton Orient
Sheffield Wednesday star Barry Bannan has been “fired up” by his glaring miss against Leyton Orient.
In Wednesday’s League One campaign opener at the weekend, the midfielder capitalised on shoddy defending to race in behind and rount the Orient goalkeeper.
All he had left to do was finish into an empty net, but the 36-year-old struck into the side-netting.
The Owls secured a 2-1 win regardless, but Bannan has still been given fuel for Wednesday’s upcoming fixtures by the blunder.

Barry Bannan fired up by miss
He told Sky Sports: “I've had quite a lot [of stick], to be fair. It's all deserved to be honest. It was it was a really bad miss. I think I was celebrating before it actually went into the net, so that's a big lesson learned.
“Obviously every player loves to score goals, and that was a big, easy chance that I had to get off the mark for the season.
“So it's fired me up a little bit now for the next coming games to try and get on the scoresheet and get off the mark.
“But yeah, it was a really bad miss. I'm just so happy that it never came back to haunt me. In the end, it was all about three points, which kind of made it a lot easier on the journey home for me.”

Bradford City test ahead
Bannan will be hoping to bounce back in style under the Hillsborough lights, with Wednesday due to host Bradford City tomorrow night (August 20).
It could be a stern test for the Owls up against a Bantams side who reached the League One play-offs last season.
Graham Alexander’s men kicked off their league campaign with a 2-0 victory over Peterborough United.
