'I think' - Billy Mitchell explains decision to join Sheffield Wednesday from Millwall
Billy Mitchell has lifted the lid on his decision to leave boyhood club Millwall for Sheffield Wednesday
Billy Mitchell has admitted to being lured to Sheffield Wednesday by the prospect of what the club could become.
The midfielder joined the Owls on a three-year deal earlier this month, making the first move of his career from boyhood club Millwall.
He rebuffed new contract offers from the Lions, taking the somewhat surprising decision to drop a division into League One.

Billy Mitchell on Sheffield Wednesday decision
In an interview with The Star, the 25-year-old has opened up on his decision to turn over a new page with the Owls.
He said: “It was excitement about what Sheffield Wednesday could be in the years to come. It’s obviously a massive club with new ownership and as I’ve said before, it feels as if they’ve really turned a corner. The kind of recruitment they’ve spoken to me about is exciting.
“We’ve seen the likes of Wrexham and Birmingham [City] in the last few years potentially do something similar and I think Wednesday could potentially be that next story. I’ve got scope to improve in that way as a player as well.”
Sheffield Wednesday’s summer business
The move reunited Mitchell with Owls icon Barry Bannam, who returned to Wednesday after a brief stint at Millwall 10 days prior.
Wednesday have also signed Callum Slattery from Motherwell, meaning there are some very attractive options for Henrik Pedersen to choose from in the middle of the park.

Further up the pitch, Wednesday have bolstered their attack with the permanent signing of winger Louie Barry from Aston Villa and the loan capture of forward Harry Gray from Leeds United.
At the back, the Owls have looked to shore up their defence with the permanent additions of defenders Ricardo Santos, Swil Swinkels and Jordi Liongola, as well as goalkeeper Joe Lumley.
