Celtic 'assessing' Sheffield Wednesday, Blackburn Rovers and QPR-linked Dundee star Jon McCracken

Scottish giants Celtic are reportedly assessing Sheffield Wednesday-linked Dundee goalkeeper Jon McCracken.

The 25-year-old found opportunities limited at Norwich City and joined Dundee on a permanent basis in 2024.

He had been loaned out by the Canaries on a number of occasions but has managed to settle at Dens Park, establishing himself between the sticks.

The former Scotland youth international’s progress does not appear to have gone unnoticed, as speculation over his future has emerged.

Last month, League One-bound Wednesday were among the clubs credited with interest in the highly-rated stopper. Fellow Championship outfits Blackburn Rovers and Queens Park Rangers were also named as admirers.

According to Football Insider, McCracken has now cropped up on the radar of Scottish Premiership heavyweights Celtic.

It has been claimed the Bhoys are exploring a possibility of a free transfer swoop for the goalkeeper, who is due to be out of contract in the summer.

He is said to be among several candidates being assessed as potential additions to the goalkeeping department with Kasper Schmeichel expected to leave at the end of the season.

Sheffield Wednesday’s goalkeeping situation

Wednesday currently have a star between the sticks in Northern Ireland international Pierce Charles.

The 20-year-old has made rapid progress since joining the club from Manchester City’s academy and performed heroics in the 1-1 draw with Leicester City yesterday (April 6).

However, he has repeatedly been at the centre of transfer speculation and there has been talk of interest from Celtic’s bitter rivals Rangers. A move to Ibrox would reunite him with his former Wednesday manager Danny Rohl, as well as his old Owls goalkeeping coach Sal Bibbo.

After his side’s draw with Leicester, Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen said: “It gives our defenders great confidence to have a fantastic goalkeeper behind them. All of our players worked so hard, but Pierce was brilliant. He will play at the top level.”
