Luton Town and ex-Rotherham United forward Jerry Yates 'discussed' as potential Sheffield Wednesday signing
Luton Town forward Jerry Yates has reportedly been discussed as a potential summer signing for Sheffield Wednesday.
The 29-year-old, a product of Rotherham United’s academy, spent the second half of the 2025/26 season on loan in S6 after a January switch was sanctioned.
His work ethic endeared him to the Hillsborough faithful, who saw Yates register four goals across 18 appearances. Yates’ final goal tally for the campaign stood at 11, as he had weighed in with seven for Luton prior to switching clubs.

Jerry Yates ‘discussed’ at Sheffield Wednesday
According to The Star, Yates has featured in discussions over potential recruits held by key figures at Wednesday.
It has been indicated a deal will not be straightforward to do, as Luton paid just over £1m for Yates last summer and he is under contract until 2028. In addition, the Owls will be working under some transfer constraints and Luton would be sending a player to a League One rival.
However, the former Blackpool and Swansea City attacker is thought to be receptive to the idea of a return to Wednesday.
Jerry Yates’ stance on future
Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield about his future in March, Yates said: “Listen, it’s a tough situation. I have got two years left on my contract at Luton. I will go back to them in the summer, re-evaluate, sit down and speak. Whether it be with them or whether it be elsewhere, I don’t know yet.
“But listen, to be playing in front of fans like that every week would be sensational. I have never seen fans like that.

“There is only a certain amount of clubs in England that can get a following like that, especially in this position, and be bouncing for the full 90 minutes. It is what the lads need. It’s massive. I am very appreciative of it.”
Yates would arguably be a shrewd addition to the Wednesday ranks and his retention would provide some continuity in what looks set to be a summer of change.
However, the Owls will have to be conscious of giving too much weight to sentiment if other deals work better for the club.
