Sheffield Wednesday secure loan deal for Aston Villa's Bennett

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY have signed Aston Villa left back Joe Bennett on loan for the rest of the season.

The former Middlesbrough full-back will stay at Hillsborough until June 30 and will provide competition for Daniel Pudil, with Rhoys Wiggins being linked with a move away from the Owls, with Brighton and Bristol City.

Rochdale-born Bennett saw a loan spell at Bournemouth cut short earlier this season due to injury - after joining the Cherries on deadline day in September.

He failed to make a single appearance for the club due to an Achilles injury, which he has now recovered from.

Bennett - who moved to Villa from Boro in a £2.75m deal in August 2012 - successfully underwent a medical today.

Bennett, who was on loan at Brighton last term, has only featured once for Villa during the 2015/16 campaign, coming on as a substitute and scoring in their 5-3 Capital One Cup victory over Notts County.
