Davis Keillor-Dunn's relief to be back on goal trail with Sheffield Wednesday

Davis Keillor-Dunn was relieved to score his first league goals since a brace for Barnsley in January.

The striker scored twice on the back of assisting Barry Bannan for the opening goal as Sheffield Wednesday beat Wimbledon 5-0.

Although he had netted for the Owls before, he gave much greater significance to Saturday's goals.

"I'm buzzing to get off the mark in the league," he said. "I got one in the Jersey Mike's Trophy, but it was great to get a couple in front of the Hillsborough faithful. It's just fantastic playing your football in front of these fans.

"I was really desperate (to score in the league). Normally I wouldn't really do a knee slide, but the past few months I've not really played regular football so it was a little bit of relief just to get that first one."

He missed a late chance for a first hat-trick for four years.

"I think it was a bit of a sitter, to be honest, the header, just got to keep it down and head it back the same way as it came from," he reflected.

"But the three points is the main thing. Individual stuff is nice, but the three points is the most important."

Keillor-Dunn was in tremendous form for Barnsley until joining Wrexham on deadline day in February killed his momentum. After a bit-part there, he has been loaned to Wednesday.

"It's been about rhythm," he commented. "It's not a switch in football. You've got to be training, you've got to be coming on.

"Match-fitness is totally different to training, and getting 15, 20 minutes here and there is quite tough as a player, especially a player like myself, who's gone from playing most weeks, 90 minutes.

"It was really good to get a fresh start, play games and just feel the love a little bit again."

The Owls only signed Keillor-Dunn until January because it was all their Football League-restricted budget would stretch to, and whilst he insists he has not thought about the future, he is enjoying being back in South Yorkshire.

"I've still got a long-term contract at Wrexham, but I love it here," he said. "I want to be playing regularly, and that's all.

"He's very understanding, the manager at Wrexham (Phil Parkinson). He knows I want to play most weeks and have an impact.

"What better place to come than Hillsborough and Sheffield?

"It's initially just until January, but I'm sure the club will be in talks with Wrexham, trying to get things extended.

"We'll just take each game as it comes, just one step at a time."
