Football coronavirus decision this afternoon as Sheffield Wednesday Under-23s game is off
No official reason has been given for the Professional Development League match being called off, but it comes on the day the Football League and Premier League have called emergency meetings to discuss whether this weekend's matches should go ahead.
The Government's advice early on Thursday evening was that sporting events should continue to be played for the time being, but the situation has moved on apace since then
Both club's entire first teams, along with Everton's, are self-isolating, as are some Manchester City and Leicester City players.
Opinion is split amongst the Football League clubs as to how best to proceed, with some pressing for a postponement of fixtures, others reliant on the money to get through the season.
It is expected that the Football League will make its decision after the Premier League.
With two rounds of weekend fixtures before the next scheduled international break, a short-term decision could be reached.
The Owls' under-23 game was due to be played at Birmingham at 1.30pm. They have said that a new date will be announced in due course.
