Former Sheffield Wednesday favourite Clinton Morrison wants more from the wide boys

CLINTON MORRISON says Danny Rohl should challenge his Sheffield Wednesday wingers to weigh in with more goals.

The Owls have scored just 13 in 12 Championship games this season, a poor return considering four came at home to Plymouth Argyle on the opening weekend.

On Friday at Portsmouth, Michael Smith became only the third player to have found the net more than once for them in this season’s Championship. Josh Windass is their three-goal top-scorer, one ahead of Barry Bannan.

Morrison believes his old club, who play Brentford in Tuesday’s League Cup last 16, have enough options to push for the play-offs but need more from their wide players.

"I like Sheffield Wednesday’s attacking options," said the former striker, speaking exclusively to The Yorkshire Post on behalf of 10bet. "Ike Ugbo was very good last season. It won’t be long before he’s firing again.

"Wednesday have signed Jamal Lowe, they’ve got Josh Windass and Michael Smith. Danny Rohl has a lot of options and he rotates them.

"If I was him, I’d be looking at my wide players and challenging them to contribute. They need to start adding goals to the team."

Winger Djeidi Gassama scored his first goal of the season at Coventry City and Anthony Musaba the winner against West Bromwich Albion. Summer signing Olaf Kubicki is yet to score for the Owls and has now picked up a muscle injury.

Ugbo impressed on loan with seven goals in the second half of last season but is yet to add to them since joining permanently. It is the Canada international Morrison, who made 72 appearances for Wednesday between 2010 and 2012, is looking to for the goals which can push his old club up the table.

"Ugbo is the danger man," he said. "He is the one player you’re looking at and thinking, you can score me the goals to have a very good season.

"If you’ve got a striker that can score 15 or 20 goals in the Championship, that gives you a great chance of finishing in the play-offs.

"Sheffield Wednesday have got the squad to compete with the best teams in the Championship."

Clinton Morrison has named his Top 10 Championship Teams on behalf of 10bet.
