A youthful Owls side pushed their Premier League opponents hard in the first 45 minutes but they were unable to sustain it once they had given the Cotagers a two-goal headstart.

Joe Wildsmith – made some good saves when called upon and talked his defence through the game 7

Liam Shaw – part of a defence which got stretched in the second half 6

Ciaran Brennan – like Shaw, did better in the first half but will learn from the experience 6

Julian Borner – it would have been nice to see him take the defending more by the scruff of the neck 6

Liam Palmer – a difficult job for wing-back with Anthony Knockaert always looking to get in behind, he failed to make the most of a good chance too 6

Fiyaso Dele-Bashiru – good on the ball but he should have done better with a first-half chance 7

Liam Waldock – busy and good in possession, the teenage central midfielder did not look out of place 7

Joey Pelupessy – an unfussy presence, he took over the armband when Liam Palmer was withdrawn 6

Moses Odubajo – got forward well from left wing-back and forced a couple of good saves, he later switched to the right 7

Adam Reach – this formation is not really made for the winger 6

Elias Kachunga – did not take the one chance which came his way from Liam Palmer's off-target effort 6.

Rhodes (for Waldock, 79) – hard for all the visitng strikers 5
