Sheffield Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal is staying quiet on injury updates ahead of Saturday’s tricky FA Cup trip to Shrewsbury Town.

Defensive duo Michael Turner and Tom Lees have been sidelined for several weeks, but are close to returns.

But Carvalhal is reluctant to reveal team news before matches, and stuck to this policy at Thursday’s pre-match press conference.

“Let’s see,” he replied when questioned about injury updates. “We will see what players we can recover. We don’t want to give any information to outside.

“We are very optimistic about all the players who have had pain in the last few weeks.”

Other players understood to be close to making first-team returns after injury are midfield trio Lewis McGugan, Alex Lopez and Marco Matias.

But goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith and midfielder Filipe Melo are both out injured.

Carvalhal said: “We don’t have any problems at the moment other than Filipe Melo and Joe Wildsmith.

“We have one more day and then we will decide about Saturday.”

The Owls could return to the transfer market before Monday’s deadline.

Turning left-back Daniel Pudil’s loan from Watford into a permanent deal is an ongoing issue, while the Owls are also keen to bring in a midfielder with Brentford’s Alan Judge and Everton’s Aiden McGeady targets.
