‘Fair play’, says satisfied Sheffield Wednesday boss Carvalhal after stalemate

RIVAL bosses Carlos Carvalhal and Chris Hughton acknowledged that a draw was a fair result after form sides Sheffield Wednesday and Brighton played out a goalless stalemate at Hillsborough.

Chances were at a premium between two well-drilled teams, who at least managed to extend impressive autumnal sequences despite having to settle for a point.

Wednesday are now 11 matches without a win, while Albion maintained their unbeaten seasonal sequence - they are the only side in all four divisions in England who have yet to lose a league game this term.

Meanwhile, the south-coast outfit equalled a spot of history, with the draw increasing their run without a win to a club record 16 games, with that feat set 85 years ago.

On his side’s performance, Carvalhal said: “I accept the result. We were planning to win at the beginning of the game. But at the end and before, I understood we were playing against a team with very strong defensive organisation.

“It was clear that both teams are strong with strong organisation. Both teams tried to win, but against another strong team, it was a normal score.

“We stopped their (attacking) dynamic almost completely as they had few chances. But they did the same with us.

“I am happy about my players, we finished the game in a completely good vibe. In the last three games, it’s seven points, which in this competition is very good. On Saturday, we have another game; it’s our life.”

Brighton boss Hughton concurred that both sides merited a point for their efforts on the night.

He added: “A draw was a fair result, I don’t think any team deserved to win and neither deserved to lose.

“We just lacked that little bit of something to turn the game in our favour.”
