The 21-year-old sustained a knee injury in the friendly draw at Doncaster Rovers on Sunday and damaged his posterior cruciate ligament and will be out for a decent spell.
Head coach Stuart Gray said: “We thought it might have been worse. We thought it might have been an anterior cruciate ligament injury, but fingers crossed, it won’t be that. It is going to be a couple of months, minimum.”
It’s the latest injury problem to befall the Owls, with Kieren Westwood having also tweaked a cartilage and to see a specialist to assess the extent of the injury.
Jeremy Helan, who has suffered a muscle tear, is also struggling with injury, with fitness issues having also afflicted the likes of Lewis Buxton and Jose Semedo.
Compounding Gray’s difficulties is the fact that the failure to complete the protracted takeover at Hillsborough is also putting inward transfer business effectively on hold.
Trialist defender Dejan Kelhar will feature in tomorrow’s home friendly with Newcastle and Gray will speak with him about his future once the game is out of the way.
Another trialist, former St Etienne striker Brandao, is being tipped to join Bastia.
French midfielder Florian Tardieu has undergone a medical and been shown around the club and is awaiting to sign, but as yet the deal has not been signed off.
