The 32-year-old was in a cafe in his native Algeria when actors dressed as terrorists stormed in, armed with machine guns.

As part of the prank, Bougherra was forced into a small cupboard along with the rest of the cafe’s customers, who were in on the act.

The Algeria international managed to act as a calming influence to his fellow ‘captives’ before being blindfolded and driven into the middle of the desert where he was made to drop to his knees.

Eventually, his blindfold was removed to expose the prank.

And he appeared to take the stunt rather well.

Bougherra spent just six months with the Owls before leaving for Charlton Athletic in a £2.5m deal.

Though his time at Hillsborough was short, he made a big impression, particularly with his marauding runs from central defence.

From Charlton he joined Rangers and he is currently playing in the Middle East.
