The performances of homegrown midfielder Shaw, who has broken through at his boyhood club this term, has attracted interest from several other clubs, mindful of his contractual situation with his deal expiring this summer.

Wednesday have been in discussions about a new contract with the 19-year-old for several months, but he is now destined for a move north of the border, with Celts manager Neil Lennon confirming that the player has signed a pre-contract agreement with the club, who have been interested in Shaw for some time.

Lennon said: “We’ve completed a deal for Liam Shaw, he’s signed a pre-contract. So, that’s done and we’re looking ahead.”

Due to his age, Celtic will only have to pay a small compensation package for Shaw and it has been mooted to be as little as £300,000.

While Shaw's future is destined to be north of the border, Scotland international and Owls captain Bannan has expressed confidence that a new deal will be struck shortly to keep him at the club and reports suggest he has agreed a deal in principle.

In October, Bannan revealed he was in talks over extending his deal, which is due to expire in the summer, and said the threat of relegation from the Championship would not put him off or cause him to delay.

Speaking recently, Bannan said: “I've made it clear what I want to do, I want to stay at the club.

“We're nearly there so hopefully there will be some good news in the coming week or two."
