Wildsmith: Fine save to tip over Semedo before finally being beaten and stayed strong in the second half. 8

Palmer: Produced a fine centre for a great chance for a second for Paterson. Came off at the break. 6

Lees: Foul on Semedo presented the free-kick chance from which Reading nearly levelled. Made some key challenges and was on message as Reading laid siege. 7

Borner: A night for discipline and throwing bodies on the line. Very busy after the dismissal. 7

Van Aken: Came off at the interval and was replaced by Pelupessy. 6

Harris: Had to keep his discipline and help out as Reading threatened with their pace and movement, more especially when the hosts lost Shaw. Contributed to the Owls' opener and ploughed a lone furrow up front in the second half. 7

Shaw: Loose pass led to a good early chance for Joao and then his evening assumed nightmare proportions with his dismissal for a reckless challenge on Richards. More poor technique than intent to harm the Reading player. 4

Bannan: A touch more advanced, but then forced to drop deep after Wednesday went down to ten men. Sacrificed at the break for the energy of Pelupessy. 6

Luongo: Collected his fifth booking of the season which will mean a suspension. Battled away amid adversity. 7

Reach: His cross for Paterson's goal was an absolute beauty and made a brilliant goalline clearance at the other end. Worked his socks off for the team. 8

Paterson: Confidence boosted by a cracking header to put the Owls front and went close to a second soon after. Emptied the tank and gave his all. Dropped into midfield in second half. 7
