Sheffield Wednesday’s Liam Shaw faces learning process after Hillsborough red card

“When you are on a yellow, you run the risk,” admitted caretaker chief Thompson.
“Years ago, you have the tackle and it’s a throw-in for Birmingham.
“But you can’t leave the ground, he is only a little bit off the ground, deemed out of control.

“We were then going to be under pressure for large periods in the second half, conceded the goal, but then I thought we gave it a right go to get back in it.
“The lad is devastated, but it’s part of football. When you make a mistake with the ball, or get sent off, then you have to learn from it.
“Liam will learn, he is a young lad, but he is a disappointed boy.”

Shaw is one of a large group of players at Hillsborough whose contracts expire in the summer.
Captain Barry Bannan committed to a new two-year deal last week.
