The relegation battle will see the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham United, and potentially Huddersfield Town embroiled in the scrap towards the tail-end of the campaign, as the drama looks set to go down to the wire. Here's how the latest data algorithm (via FiveThirtyEight) has predicted the final Championship table will look at the end of the season:
5. 5th: Barnsley
Points total: 76. Well now, this is quite something. Valerien Ismael's exciting side have been on fire recently, and the data boffins think they'll keep up their momentum and secure a play-off place. Photo: George Wood
6. 6th: Bournemouth
Points total: 73. The Cherries scrape into the top six, and in doing so pick up the final play-off spot. They've rallied well despite losing some key players last summer, and will be hopeful of getting back to the top tier. Photo: Naomi Baker
7. 7th: Reading
Points total: 72. Heartbreak for Reading! They miss out on the play-offs by just one point, which is rather rotten luck. Lucas Joao has been on fire for them this season, scoring 18 goals and making seven assists. Photo: Catherine Ivill
8. 8th: Cardiff City
Points total: 71. Mick McCarthy's instant impact has given the Bluebirds a fighting chance of making the play-offs, but the Supercomputer crunched the numbers and determined that promotion isn't on the cards this season. Photo: Gareth Copley
