Simon Weaver hopes Anthony O'Connor's arrival will stop unwanted Harrogate Town trend

Simon Weaver hopes the addition of Anthony O'Connor will help Harrogate Town shore up their leaky defence ahead of today’s meeting against high-flying Stevenage.

The Sulphurites have conceded 39 goals in League Two, with only Hartlepool United boasting a worse defensive return.

O’Connor joined from Morecambe to become the club’s second signing of the January window and Weaver hopes his arrival will see fewer goals hit the back of the Harrogate net. He said: "Anthony O’Connor is a reliable body who comes to us with good pedigree having played plenty of games in League One.

"He’s got a lot of ability, he’s good on the ball and recently scored a great goal against Plymouth but the reason we’ve brought him in is because of his impressive defensive capabilities. Primarily I really like his ability to read the game and read danger. Defenders are paid to defend and we have someone here who knows how to keep the ball out of the back of his net.”
