A supercomputer is predicting that Derby County will win the League One title while Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley will finish in the play-off places.

Data experts at FiveThirtyEight have crunched the numbers to deliver a prediction on each team’s final points and the chances of every side being promoted or relegated.

It was a mixed night for Yorkshire’s third-tier contingent on Tuesday as Barnsley won 3-0 against Bristol Rovers at Oakwell while 10-man Wednesday saw their unbeaten start come to an end as they lost 2-0 at Peterborough United.

Goals from Devante Cole, Jordan Williams and Josh Benson earned a comfortable victory for the Tykes.

In Peterborough, Reece James saw red as Sheffield Wednesday suffered a first defeat. That was not the end of the drama as Wednesday assistant boss Jamie Smith was cautioned for a confrontation with his own player George Byers – who had been withdrawn as the visitors reorganised – moments later.

Jonson Clarke-Harris and Jack Taylor scored second-half goals to earn three points for the hosts.

Elsewhere, Derby County played out a 0-0 draw with Shrewsbury Town while Bolton Wanderers edged past Morecambe.

Ipswich Town remained top with a 1-0 win at Burton Albion while there were big wins for Portsmouth and Charlton Athletic who beat Cambridge United and Plymouth Argyle 4-1 and 5-1 respectively.
