Update on future of Barnsley loanee Nathanael Ogbeta is provided by Plymouth Argyle supremo

PLYMOUTH Argyle director of football Derek Adams has confirmed that the League One strugglers have a recall clause that they could potentially invoke to bring Barnsley loanee Nathanael Ogbeta back to Home Park in January – but has stressed that the player will have the final decision regarding his future.

Ogbeta joined the Reds on a season-long loan in the summer, having struggled for game time in Devon last term.

The left-back has generally impressed in his time at Oakwell, making 20 appearances in all competitions thus far – exactly the amount of games that he was involved in for Argyle in 2024-25.

A recent bout of illness laid him low and his last league start for Barnsley arrived on October 25.

His last three appearances at league level have all been from the bench.

Plymouth, struggling at the wrong end of League One and in the thick of a relegation fight for the third successive campaign, are assessing their transfer options ahead of the January window with Ogbeta out on loan alongside forward Callum Wright, who is at Wigan Athletic.

Speaking at a fans’ forum on Monday, former Bradford manager Adams, who was recently installed as football supremo at Argyle – who he formerly managed - revealed that there is a clause that the Devon club could potentially trigger regarding the duo, but admitted that it was not that straightforward.

He said: "There is potential for them to come back. We have got recalls on them.

"But it’s up to them if they want to come back.

"What we have to understand is sometimes they are quite settled or they want to play further north.

"We’ve already had the conversations with the clubs and the players about that."
