BARNSLEY caretaker head coach Paul Heckingbottom has confirmed that Aidy White will undergo a second scan after being stretchered off on Saturday - and fears he may have sustained ankle ligament damage.

The Reds defender suffered the injury just 25 minutes into the weekend derby with visiting Doncaster Rovers following a challenge by Conor Grant and was immediately taken to hospital.

The ex-Leeds United and Rotherham United player is now likely to be sidelined for a spell, although the extent of which is not currently known.

Heckingbottom said: “He went straight to hospital and had an X-ray and there was nothing conclusive other than there was not an immediate break that could be seen.

“We are fortunate in that respect. But knowing Aidy and the type of lad he is, you could tell it was serious straightaway.

“If it is not bone damage, then it is looking like ankle ligaments.

“We are waiting for another opinion on the X-ray and moving forward, it’s probably a scan before we know the extent of the damage.

“But he is probably going to be out (for a spell).

“We hope it is not too bad. We know he will got looked after here and hope it will be sooner rather than later.”
