Video: Reds were anxious - Wilson

BARNSLEY manager Danny Wilson admits that his Reds side are suffering from an anxiety attack going forward, with his side second-best in last night’s South Yorkshire derby with Doncaster Rovers at Oakwell.

The Reds had the fillip of any early lead through Lewin Nyatanga’s early header, but couldn’t build on it, with ex-Rovers keeper Ross Turnbull making a number of fine saves before his resistance was broken when Theo Robinson levelled seven minutes after the interval.

Rovers dominated in the second half, with Barnsley hardly creating anything at all, with the hosts entitled to be a touch thankful to escape with a draw.

In a stop-start season, it extended the Reds’ winless streak to three league matches, with the side having plenty of work to do if they are to make an impact in League One this term.

Wilson said: “From our point of view, we think we could have done better in certain parts of the game.

“Again, we looked anxious at times and if passes go astray, there are one or two oohs and arrs and one or two need a bit of confidence.

“Then, one or two try and force things and that doesn’t work.

“We got off to a good start, but Doncaster also played some good football against us at times and were a threat.

“Was 1-1 a fair result? Maybe, maybe not. I think the amount of efforts on goal they had were far better than ours.

“I thought defensively we were okay. But going forward, I thought our final ball was rushed or there was anxiety or miscontrol in our play.

“We have just got to get through that little period we are having at the moment.”

Wilson confirmed that a hamstring strain forced out Joe Dudgeon ahead of kick-off, with Mason Holgate drafted in for a debut, with the Reds chief impressed by his display.

He said: “We had a shining light in young Mason. He did tremendous coming in there at the last minute.”

Wilson said that Jean-Yves M’voto missed the game with a groin strain, with Sam Winnall to undergo his scan on a hamstring injury today.
