The Owls will provide the opposition for Villa’s first game in the second tier since May 1988.

Wednesday’s first away-day excursion also pits them against relegated opposition in the shape of Norwich City on August 13 - and an attractive first month also sees them welcome derby rivals Leeds United on August 20 - four days after visiting Burton’s Pirelli Stadium.

December is also a mouth-watering month for the Owls, who welcome near-neighbours Rotherham United - who beat them at S6 last term - on December 17 and they face successive Christmas away days, travelling to St James’ Park to face Newcastle on Boxing Day before a New Year’s Eve trip to Preston.

The Owls start 2017 at home to Wolves on January 2 and host Huddersfield on January 14.

Wednesday visit Elland Road on February 25 and travel to Villa Park on March 11.

Carlos Carvalhal’s side have a crunch start to April, visiting Barnsley on April 1 and Rotherham three days later for a midweek game. They then host Newcastle on April 8.

Wednesday finish the season at home to Fulham on May 7.
